New Delhi: With the arrest of one Manav Mitra, Economic Offences Wing of Delhi police has solved a case of fake MBBS admission racket where many innocent families were duped into giving crores of rupees for securing medical seats for their wards. Manav Mitra is about 40 years, is a graduate (BA) from Saint Columbus College, Hazaribagh, Jharkhand, came in contact with one Mayank Singh and Krishna Kanahiya Kumar. He started working in Delhi as Medical Consultant for MBBS guidance and admission and later he started cheating people. Other persons Vivek Kumar also joined him in the crime. His detail interrogation is being done and efforts are being made to trace his other associates.

EOW Delhi was registered on the complaint of Rakesh Maskeen who alleged that he was contracted by a firm M/S Prime Consultant run by Manav Mitra and assisted by, Vivek Kumar, Alok and Krishna for admission of his ward in medical college under management quota seat. He visited their office several times, where they assured him of his high level contracts in management of several medical colleges across India. He was asked to pay Rs. 20 lacs and after few meetings, complainant paid the amount. However, after few days, all the criminals left the place and hid at undisclosed locations without arranging medical seat as promised.
During investigations, five other victim also came forward who told that they had also been cheated by the same group of criminals. They were also assured of confirmed seat for their wards in MBBS colleges under management quota. On 2-6-14 two accomplices of Manav Mitra namely Vivek Kumarhad gone to the residence of Rakesh Maskeen and collected Rs. 20 lac cash on the pretext of admission of his daughter in Medical College. Vivek Kumar had been arrested on 17-9-2014 while main accused Manav Mitra was still absconding. These criminals had duped several other victims also in a similar way. The total cheated amount is more than 1.25 crores.
A team was formed under Inspector Praveen Kumar and Constable Bheem Singh under overall supervision of ACP HSP Singh for apprehending the accused. As per sources after absconding from Delhi, he committed the same fraud in Kolkata also. All possible hide outs at Kolkata were raided. However, the accused fled from Kolkata and shifted his base to Mumbai and operated from IIT area, Pavai, Mumbai. After constant efforts, police team zeroed in on the accused and located him in Pavai, Mumbai. On 8-4-2014, accused Manav Mitra was arrested from Mumbai.
